About the Custodian Position

The Custodian job opening is an up to 15 hours per week part-time position with responsibility for keeping the church property clean and ready for use. The time of work is primarily spread across Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, with a need for flexibility around special events, such as weddings and funerals.

We are looking for a proactive, efficient church custodian who possesses an understanding of proper cleaning methods and a respect for the religious beliefs of others. The church custodian will be observant, respectful, motivated, and committed to ensuring that all publicly accessible areas of the church are clean and ready for other staff members and the congregation to use.

Earn $15 per hour helping make a difference with us in downtown Jackson.

Responsibilities

• Assist with preparations for events
• Change light bulbs
• Clean surfaces throughout the building
• Clear snow
• Empty trash and recycling
• Make minor repairs
• Maintain inventory of supplies and request purchases when items are low in stock
• Move chairs, tables, or other furniture items
• Mow grass
• Pick up litter
• Restock dispensers, such as toilet paper, paper towels, soap, and more
• Sanitize doorknobs and handrails, if applicable and tables in Fellowship Hall
• Vacuum or sweep floors and mop, if needed
• Perform additional tasks, as requested

Requirements

• Understanding of cleaning techniques and safety procedures.
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb and work from ladders, and perform other physical activities associated with the position.
• The successful applicant must submit to a criminal history background check
• Strong communication, comprehension, and interpersonal skills.
• Be flexible in availability to accommodate the schedule of church activities
• Motivation to work independently or with others to provide thorough, efficient custodial services to the church.
