Tigers’ Home Plate outing set

HOME PLATE IS BACK.  By popular demand, FBC will once again attend the Home Plate program at Comerica Park in downtown Detroit on Saturday, June 8, 2019.  After the Home Plate program, we’ll stay for the Tiger’s game against the Minnesota Twins.

Here’s the details:

What is Home Plate?  Home Plate is a pre-game program organized by the Tigers’ Chaplin with members of the Detroit Tigers and Minnesota Twins speaking about baseball and their faith in Jesus Christ and how both have shaped their lives.  There will be songs of praise and times of prayer.  Scheduled to speak this year, among others, are pitchers Matt Boyd, Michael Fulmer and Buck Farmer, third-baseman Jeimer Caelario and utility player Niko Goodrum.

Schedule:  This will be an all day excursion.  We’ll meet at FBC at 9:30 to organize.  Depart FBC at 10:00.  Arrive at Comerica Part at 11:30 and find our seats by 12:20.  The Home Plate event starts at 12:30 and concludes at 2:00.  From 2:00 to 3:20, there will be an on-field clinic to explore and maybe meet some Tigers.  The game against the Minnesota Twins will start at 4:10 and conclude about 7:00.  We’ll probably get back to FBC at 8:30 or so.

How are we getting there?  Charter bus.  A collection will be taken to cover the cost of the bus.

Cost:  $34 per person (under 4 are free but won’t have their own seat for the game).  For $34, you get admittance to Home Plate, $5 Fun Money for concessions, the on-field baseball clinic and a seat for the baseball game.  You’ll need extra money for concessions as well as $5 for tipping the bus driver.  This $34 does not include costs for the bus.  A separate collection will be taken to cover the cost of the bus.

How do you sign up?  There is a sign-up sheet on the bulletin board by the kitchen.  Or you can email or call the FBC office during office hours (Monday through Friday between 9:00am 1:00pm).

Who can go?  Anyone.  This is not for the FBC family alone.  This is an excellent outreach opportunity to bring a friend or family member along to experience an FBC outing.  The charter bus will have a capacity of 55 people.

Wheelchairs?  Seating available for those using a wheelchair and their companions.

Payment:  Payment for each participant must be received by the church office no later than Friday, April 19, 2019.  Write checks to “First Baptist Church of Jackson” with “Home Plate 2019” in the memo field.
