New mission! First Baptist Church is excited to be part of a new mission in the Jackson area! We are the host site for the Jackson Personal Care Ministry (JPCM) - providing personal needs items (such as shampoo, toilet paper, toothbrush/toothpaste and other items unable to be purchased with Bridge cards) to people in Jackson. The JPCM is open each Thursday from 5 to 6;30 pm. Partnering churches include Brookside United Methodist Church, East Liberty Universalist/Unitarian Church, First Baptist Church, First Congregational Church, First United Methodist Church, New Horizons Church, St. John United Church of Christ, and Westminster Presbyterian Church. Volunteers from these churches will set up and put away items, as well as check in clients. Churches may also collect supplies and/or donations for the ministry. Lutheran Church of the Lakes and the "Couponing Group" from Bethel Baptist Church are participating in this way. Some items will also be purchased from the Food Bank in Battle Creek. If you would like to collect/donate items for this ministry, please see listing in the left-hand column on this page.
Missions "Mission" is a wide-ranging concept. It implies all the varied work we undertake as individuals, churches and organizations in applying our faith and in sharing the Gospel message with others. Mission is an awesome invitation and responsibility, and an endeavor that can never be exhausted. We undertake it realizing that only with God's help can the immense task of Christian mission be accomplished. First Baptist supports, through participation and monetary giving, those activities that address human needs of our community in conjunction with other local churches. A few ways to be involved in mission work include the following: Local Level Share space with Downtown (AA) Group Working the food pantry at Immanuel Lutheran Church Collecting school supplies for the AWARE Shelter each fall Ongoing financial support to both above Preparing Christmas Baskets for families in Jackson County
World-Wide Operation Christmas Child - Shoeboxes are collected and filled with candy, toys, clothing, etc., throughout the year and then shipped overseas to children in other countries. In addition, through its affiliation with American Baptist Churches, First Baptist supports many other missions on a state, national and world level.
