Vacation Bible School 2008 The vote is in ... VBS was a rousing success! The Rainforest theme lent itself well to Bible teachings, science projects, skits and music. Even the adults were seen singing and doing the hand motions to the catchy songs. (Maybe we should ask for a demonstration ... I’ve heard of at least one family that is still enjoying the songs on their CD at home!)
This year’s VBS was a collaboration between 5 downtown churches, and everything worked very smoothly. There were plenty of helpers - in fact, they were prepared for 100 kids and averaged just 40-50 per night. Wouldn’t it be great to keep the workers REALLY busy? Start thinking about friends, coworkers and their families that you can encourage and invite for next year! Offer to pick the kids up! Invite them to bring friends of their own as well! And talk about putting things into perspective. The mission project had a real impact on the kids. It is set in Cuzco, a small city in the Andean highlands of Peru. The offering collected will be used to support a non-government project called Huch Uy Runa that helps children 5 to 17 years old who have been living in the streets of Cuzco have food, shelter, education, and the opportunity to learn a trade. The name Huch Uy Runa means “small, important person.” The VBS kids were amazed to learn that just $50 will provide 3 meals a day to 5 children for a month. Health & dental care can be provided to a child for a year for just $11. For $16, a child can attend workshops in carpentry, metallurgy, and horticulture for 3 months. We are pleased to say that the kids raised nearly $400 for this project. Way to go!
Our 2006 VBS theme was "Fiesta," where kids are "all fired up about Jesus."
